seems that not a lot has been happening in my little world of late. the hollow-daze of c’hanakwanzmas came and went, as did the start of the new year.

hard to believe that we are almost to the end of the first 12th of the year. it goes by so very fast.

went with a small group to see Gay Sex in the 70’s at the Castro Theatre last night. what a trip it was. several men that were in New York during the crazy heyday that followed the Stonewall riots, and the eventual lead to the beginning of the AIDS crisis at the opening of the 1980s. it was funny, amazing and sad all within moments.

it brought back a lot of memories of those days, the furtive looks in the old “pink pages” of the Advocate and ALL of the ads for the clubs, bars and baths in NYC. the trips to visit the big city while in my teens, seeing some of the places that i saw in those pages, and in the movie. the names and places that i maybe dreamt of going when i “grew up” – well maybe.

i might have “missed out” on some of that freedom and craziness – i still had my moments mind you – but in more than one way i am so much better off. for one – i am here while so many of us are not.

a lot has changed in gay rights in the last 27-odd years – and we are on the front lines of a lot more battles today. maybe we can win some of these without quite so many casualties.
