low budget puppies
so the night before last – since M was in Texas – i started digging through ny box of DVDs never watched. lots of this, a little of that and some of the other stuff to choose from. i needed something, well different.
so i happened upon Dog Soldiers – a movie i have heard good things about, but have just never sat down to watch it.
well i freakin’ loved it! one of the lead roles in the movie is played by Kevin McKidd who plays Lucius Vorenus in the HBO series Rome. actually one of the best characters and best actors on the show.
so anyway – LOW budget movie dealing with werewolves in a very back woods setting in the wilds of the Scotish Highlands. once you saw the men-in-rubber-suits it was a bit of a let down, but the story kept me going. at least they did one of my favorite things with this type of genre film, they held the reveal until late in the movie and built the suspense on the story and events. just flash here and flash there showing the werewolves darting back and forth in the background – enough to know they were there without being in your face.
lots of sloppy sloppy body parts and at one point a Range Rover door opening with a water – oops – blood-fall spilling out the door. icky but just so very very right. one scene with a dog (real dog, seriously) that was at once funny and horrifying really made for a fun sqeemish-curl-up-on-the-couch-and-hide-behind-pillows moment.
i was so not expecting to like this movie – but i so did.
