Former Texas Gov. Ann Richards Dies

one hell of a gutsy woman – one hell of a person.

she was a champion of women and minorities in government and was ALWAYS straight forward and honest when i heard her speak. she managed to have a hard edge, but with more than a little dose of southern humor to make her points. when she was serving as Texas state treasurer, she won cheers when she reminded delegates that Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, “only backwards and in high heels.”

i love this quote from her at the 1988 Democratic National Convention. in a keynote speech she joked that the Republican presidential nominee, George H.W. Bush, had been “born with a silver foot in his mouth.” and that was 2 years BEFORE being elected as Governor of Texas! if that man had not used such dirty politics against her in the race that he won, what a different world it would be today.

Miss Ann – you are and will be missed.
