morning walks

just a new perspective that i want to share, maybe a new vision on this city that i have come to call home.

my morning walks to the gym and back have a way of “charging” my day and my attitude that just makes me smile a bit more on some mornings. i think that this is more common now that we have moved to a different neighborhood, since the walk is more than a bit different. it used to be all “main street” and was nice in its early day silence, but was still a lot of cars and stuff.

from the new house i get a different feel. the main part of the walk is down Dubose, a mostly residential neighborhood and much more gentle and quiet in the morning. there is one house that just gives me so much joy when i pass these days that it is hard not to share the feeling. in front of this ONE house on the 2 or 3 blocks are a few trees that right now are feeling the true colors of fall. they have exploded with the bright and brilliant reds, oranges and yellows that only leaves seem to be able to have. every morning for the last few weeks there has been a new “falling” on the sidewalk, and hasn’t been trod on enough at that point in the day to be sloppy looking. fresh intense color on the grey below, covering the cracks and the grills.

and the smell! there is this subtle spicy scent along the entire walk, but mostly around this one spot. all woods and pepper. the mornings of late have been so crisp and clean, and this scent just pulls into me. some mornings that have been wet and rainy have just intensified the peppery smell as I walk along.

I know that the people who have to sweep the leaves away, or brush them off of their cars may not appreciate them the way I do, but it sure does make a special place in my heart for the day.
